Wattan Development Organization achievements in Education for all and Access to Girls Education (EFA & AGE)

Wattan Development Organization that education is the fundamental right of the women and men, so WATTAN Development organization from very beginning emphasized on the education sector. Wattan Development Organization tried to enforce improve the condition of buildings of the Government Schools in the area, in this context Wattan Development Organization played a vital role, held various meetings with education department (EDO, DOs and Supervisors) to motivate and mobilized the teachers to be punctual on their duties, meetings were held with parents of students especially girls education in the area. Wattan Development Organization awarded prizes and gifts after securing positions in the annual examination to encourage the students to compete the primary education and passed high school. WATTAN Development Organization also has taken efforts to open the closed schools in the area.

Wattan Development Organization believe that the women education plays an important role in developing the societies and nurturing future generations, Wattan Development Organization strongly advocates the idea of educating the rural area’s women/girls so that they can play their duties, important role in the our society.

Wattan Development Organization donated 1.13 acres of land to the Citizen Foundation Pakistan(NGO) for establishing school at deh Razidero Tehsil Gambat District Khairpur.

Wattan Development Organization approached to district government to support poor students in shape of scholarship, free books etc.

Strengthening of School Management Committees

Wattan Development Organization is trying to improve the standard of education with the community participation, so the trainings were organized about the importance of education, the issues of opening of closed schools, punctuality of teachers, increase the enrolment of girls education in primary schools, record keeping, problems identification and contact with relevant government officials to solve the problem of schools etc.

Good health is the sign of developed society and Pakistan’s more than 70% population resides in the rural areas. Majority of these people who live in these areas have no access to the health facilities. The basis of this are many reasons, such as unwillingness of the trained staff to work in the rural areas , non-existence of basic health facilities, no incentive for posted personnel and deteriorating law and order situations. Health care and Family Planning facilities have greatly remained deficient in rural areas. Especially women have no access to antenatal and postnatal services in villages.

Wattan Development Organization achievements in Health

Wattan Development Organization organized free medical camps at village Behlaro, Taluka Gambat District Khairpur on dated 12-11-2009. Patient detailed as women 55, men 41, girls 45 and boys 55.

In the collaboration of Population Welfare Department, Khairpur an out let for Family Planning services and contraceptives distribution was established in the MCH care Centre and organized Awareness Camps on Family Planning and Reproductive Health. These services are continued and providing contraceptive on low rates and free counseling to the couples.

Wattan Development Organization achievements in Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

In spite of the providing health facilities, Wattan Development Organization also providing the Hygiene education to the communities of the area, women, men and school children are focused group for this education.

Wattan Development Organization Social Mobilization

Making contacts with community activists and mobilizing them. This leads to democratically elected leadership that organizes itself to represent the community, advocate their causes, and plan and implement small projects

Assisting the community leaders to build second line leadership, local human resources and control conflicts and violations of rights. At this stage, the community members are encouraged to expand their contacts and scale of projects and to become part of global networks. The community members, especially the activists amidst them take up challenging tasks not only for improvements in their community but also as a contribution towards the larger social change process.

 

Wattan Development Organization active role in Humanitarian Assistance in Disasters

Humans are increasingly becoming vulnerable to violent conflicts or natural and climatic disasters that can erase decade’s development and further entrench poverty and inequality. In Pakistan, although all the provinces are susceptible to natural disasters, it becomes especially true for Sindh where disaster is always lingering on cloaked in successive and elongated intervals of drought caused by the climatic changes. Sindh is extremely vulnerable to environmental and climatic disasters as the means to cope with such incidents are limited by the financial resources and expertise.

This results in a disproportionately large number of populations vulnerable to disasters caused by recurring drought, torrential rains etc.

Development Organization during flood response

• Distribution of NFIs in 210 families in 2010 flood at UC Agra, UC Khemtia
• Rescue with Pak army evacuated 50 families in 2010 flood
• Organized free medical camp in 2010 flood at Agra band
• Distributed NFIs and Food (Eid Package) in 200 families 2010 flood at Khairpur
• Support to NGOs/INGOs to evacuate peoples at Razidero and Agra in 2010 flood
• Arranged cooked food for 300 families from local philanthropist
• Distribute NFIs (Support to SAFWCO) in 3 Taluka of District Khairpur
• Medical assistance for especially women and children
• Awareness session arranged for women on WASH and Hygiene

WOMEN/ GENDER DEVELOPMENT

Wattan Development Organization working for the better education and health of rural women, Wattan Development Organization is also working for the economic development of women in the area. Wattan Development Organization has plan to establish a Women Skill Development Centre at Gambat Taluka to teach the various skills i.e. sewing, cutting, embroidery and show piece making. After completing of these training courses many women will be able to do the activities to increase their income and support her family members.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

As Wattan Development Organization is working for the development and betterment of children and women of the area, so for WADO have not ignored the importance of youths in our society The Youths of society can play a vital role for the development of area and nation, if they may be educated and trained to serve for the nation on local level. Keeping in view of the needs of youths of the society and requirement of 21st century, Wattan Development Organization has also plan for establish a Computer Centre and Library in near future.

FOOD SECURITY

During the days of flood in the area, the peoples are not able to protect their homes and food items, so they needs shelter, food for their family members and medical support. The members of Wattan Development Organization are coordinating in every year with the District Government to provide them the food support and other help, as they have need. The Volunteers of Wattan Development Organization also collected these food items from the local philanthropists and landlords to support the needy and poor peoples of flood affected. These movements of our volunteers are very memorable and appreciate able during they are providing their volunteer services in flood area. This is our continuous activity during the flood days.

CULTURAL EVENTS

We proud that the Sindhi Culture is very rich in the World for the innovation and different. The Sindh have 5000 old history and culture. The various cultural events and Melas are our identity, so Wattan Development Organization is also supporting continuously the various cultural events and Melas for the entertainment of rural peoples, youths and children from time to time. The main purpose of these events to inform the peoples about the knowledge of history and motivate them to healthy activities i.e. sports, peace, protect them from illegal activities. In these events and Melas, Wattan Development Organization is creating awareness through fixing of banners on prominent places, organizing Interactive Theatres and musical activities indicating the various themes i.e Polio eradication, Malaria, Hygienic issues and various slogans on human and women rights for the education and awareness of peoples. The credit of these kinds of activities is goes to WADO volunteers and members, before this no activity was done in this area.

Advocacy Campaign for Rights

The Khulli Kachehryan, Rallies, Banners, Media Campaign and Interactive Theaters were organized by Wattan Development Organization for the load shedding of electricity, agriculture inputs, diseases in live stocks, shortage of water, Dhal Issues, women rights, law and orders and peace situations, NIC Cards Campaign. The above advocacy activities were support the public issues and solving of problems of peoples.

CAPITAL RESOURCES

Wattan Development Organization is equipped with the necessary audio-visual aids, computers, one vehicle, one bike furniture, and other related material. The organization has one office building at Taluka Gambat.
