Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh
Founder
Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh is an economist of international repute with over 30 years of experience in economic policymaking, management and implementation.

His work experience includes:

  • Harvard University, Cambridge
  • World Bank, where he was country head for Saudi Arabia and as a Senior Official advised 21 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America
  • Minister for Finance, Planning and Development, Sindh
  • Member of the Senate of Pakistan
  • Federal Minister for Investment and Privatization, Pakistan
  • General Partner, international investment fund

Dr. Hafeez Shaikh had a highly successful tenure as Minister for Finance, Planning & Development in Sindh Province during 2000-2002. He was the architect of the financial recovery of Sindh, restoring financial discipline, reducing taxes, increasing revenues, paying over Rs. 20 billion of old bills, clearing the overdraft of State Bank of Pakistan of Rs. 11 billion, increasing allocation for poverty alleviation, social sector and development, and enhancing relationship of Sindh Government with international donor agencies.

His three years as the Federal Minister for Privatisation & Investment were the most successful in Pakistan's history. 34 transactions worth over US $ 5 billion were completed in a transparent fashion. Using the slogan of "Privatization for the People", shares in several companies were given to 0.8 million people, creating broad ownership. The period saw foreign direct Investment increase from $ 1 Billion to $ 5 Billion. Dr. Shaikh was awarded Pakistan's "Man of the Year" in 2004 by the business community in recognition of his contributions to the country. He left Government in early 2006.

He was a highly regarded member of the Senate of Pakistan and was Chairman of the Senate's Committee on World Trade Organization.

Dr. Shaikh's international experience includes assignments in Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Romania, Czech Republic, Iran, Kuwait, Argentina, Bangladesh, Jordan, Qatar, Malta, Botswana, Tanzania, Ghana and Libya.

After leaving the Government, Dr. Shaikh was General Partner of an international investment company, headquartered in New York, which set up a $1.38 Billion fund for investments in Asia.

Dr. Shaikh has a Ph.D in economics and has authored many publications including a book on Argentina.

 
Ms. Shahnaz Wazir Ali
Director
Ms. Shahnaz Wazir Ali is currently serving as Minister of State for Social Development. She has remained as Executive Director of the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP), established to support and promote philanthropy in Pakistan with the specific objective of enhancing development and promoting social investment.

Before joining PCP in 2001, she served for three years as the Senior Education Specialist at the World Bank. She also worked for two years as the Education Specialist in the SAP Multi-Donor technical Support Unit administered by the World Bank.

From 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996, she had the unique opportunity to serve in key decision making positions in government, in the first term as Member of the National Assembly and Minister of State for Education in the Federal Government and subsequently, in the second term, as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Sectors. Some of her major contributions made to the Social Development agenda include the initiation of Primary Health Care and Family Planning Program (most commonly known as the Lady Health Workers Program), establishment of the National Literacy Commission, introduction of autonomy for tertiary hospitals, and the promotion of public-private partnerships in the education sector.

Her career in and commitment to education can be traced back to 1965, when she commenced teaching primary school children of deprived communities in Karachi, later assuming charge as Principal at the Lahore American School. She is also a Trustee of the 'Education Trust' which runs four Nasra Schools for children for low-income families in Karachi and provides K–10 education to about 10,000 students.

Ms. Wazir Ali holds a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas, USA and also a Master's Degree in Education Administration from Trenton College, New Jersey, USA. In addition, she has a Diploma in Principal's Certification from the Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. Her Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication is from the American University, Washington, D.C.

 
Mr. Hunaid Hussain Lakhani
Director
Mr. Hunaid H. Lakhani has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from The American Intercontinental University, USA and is a graduate of the Owner-President Management Program from Harvard Business School, USA.

Mr. Lakhani has over ten years of experience in the construction industry. He is also the Founder and Chancellor of Iqra University which is ranked amongst leading education institutes of Pakistan.

Mr. Lakhani has served as a member of the Sindh Information Technology Board, chaired by the Governor of Sindh. He is also the Founder & first elected President of the Association of Private Universities in Pakistan. He is an active Member of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and is ‘Networking Chair’ of its Indus Chapter.

Mr. Lakhani is actively involved in welfare projects. Recently he has helped set up institutions for mentally & physically challenged orphans under the name of “Sweet Home Foundation”.

Mr. Ali Jameel
Director
Mr. Ali Jameel is the CEO of Trakker Group & Director of TRG Pakistan Limited. Previously, he had a successful tenure as the Chief Executive of Jahangir Siddiqui Investment Bank, one of the largest brokerage firms in Pakistan.

Mr. Jameel has also held several advisory positions in Pakistan’s information technology and telecommunication sectors, including appointments on the Task Force on Telecom Deregulation, the Fiscal Incentives group on the IT Commission and the Task Force on Venture Capital.

Mr. Jameel received his B.Sc. degree from the London School of Economics. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and qualified in 1994 at KPMG Peat Marwick in London.

He is a trustee of the Indus Hospital which provides highest quality of free medical services to the poor.
