Drinking Water Facilitation
The objective of initiating water management schemes is “to put together an effective program for providing clean drinking water to the rural areas of Pakistan”. The challenge is to provide safe and clean drinking potable water at peoples’ doorsteps. Active community involvement is the key.
The ‘Drinking Water Reverse Osmosis Units’ installed by WATAN Foundation meet the “National Standards for Drinking Water Quality” set by the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Environment.
In 2007, we were donated with four reverse osmosis units, one of which has a capacity of producing 60,000 gallons of water per day. Our three units of 1,000 gallons/day capacity are installed in Shikarpur and Qambar Shahdadkot while the third one is being put up at Jafferabad, Baluchistan. The fourth unit of 60,00 gallons capacity is currently being installed in Thul, Jacobabad District. Once installed, these units will provide clean drinking water to more than 90,000 people a day. The program will spread to other target districts with installation of five additional units in year 2009. Active community participation, in financial and technical terms, is ensured to self-sustainable the project.
